Yada Yada Yada: The Newcastle Art Exhibition That’s All About Nothing
If you’re looking for an art exhibition with a bit of a difference, then ARThive’s current display has just what you may be after. Novocastrian Jessica Louttit has taken her obsession with the popular 90’s comedy Seinfeld to new heights by curating Art Vandelay, an exhibition displaying Seinfeld-inspired art. Angus Arley, Chris Bradley, Bryce Collins, Darkoyo, Mike Foxall, Grant Hunter, Ezekial Kigbo Jr, Stu McDonald, Sarah Mould, Elizabeth Nagy, Rose Turner, Ry Wilkin and many others have added their works to give the exhibition a little kick.
Starting off as an idea to have a marathon viewing session of the show, Loutitt and friends have turned this into an exhibition that can be enjoyed by Seinfeld fans throughout Newcastle and the Hunter, with artists submitting pieces from as far away as Sydney.
The exhibition’s opening night was a huge hit with the gallery turned into a mini-movie theatre. Episodes of the show were screened whilst those in attendance enjoyed some of the TV programs trademark food items such as Junior Mints, Black and White cookies, Muffin Tops and Pretzels that Made Everyone Thirsty. Some of the more popular pieces on the opening night were Ry Wilkin’s “Serenity Now”, Chris Bradley’s “Adolph’s Kitchen” and Jessica Louttit’s “Shrinkage”.
Don’t miss this pop art experience - get in quick as the exhibition only runs until June 4. ARThive is open from Wednesday through Saturday between noon and 5pm. The gallery is situated above One Penny Black and is best accessed by Morgan Street, Newcastle.
