Friday 21st December
OzHarvest Giving Tree @ Honeysuckle
Today is the last day to donate non-perishable food to OzHarvest, a charitable organisation who have served over 15 million meals to date to disadvantaged Australians across the country. Locate the yellow bin next to the Christmas tree to donate between 10am-3pm.
Love Can: Free Christmas Lights Display @ Foreshore Park
Local church, God’s House, is hosting the event for the second time to promote the Love Can campaign in the Hunter Region. The free festival spanning both Friday and Saturday night will feature a spectacular Christmas lights display, photos with Santa and Mrs Claus, a Christmas parade, carnival activities and food for sale. Love Can began December 2010 and encourages the community that “Love Can” be the most powerful force in any situation. Toy, cash and gift card donations given at the festival will be passed along to the Salvation Army. Each night will go from 7pm til 10pm.
Saturday 22nd December
Sneaky Sound System @ Fanny’s
Don’t miss out on this exclusive Newcastle show to dance along to Sneaky Sound System’s addictive hits. This 18+ event will set you back $15-$20 + booking fee. Starts at 9pm, so get your tickets now through Moshtix.
The Steel Ball @ Newcastle District Tennis Club (Club LED)
For all you heavy metal fans out there, you do not want to miss this full day of rocking to Newcastle bands. Starting before 9am and big acts performing from 2.30pm until way past Midnight, bands such as Sabretung, Virus Crawl, and Grannyfist will keep those ears ringing. Steel Ball and Band Merchandise will be available, and the Club Bristro will be open for meals 11am-7.30. This is an all ages event, but anyone under 18 must be accompanies by an adult.
“A Very Merry Musical Christmas Party” @ The Great Northern Hotel
The Great Northern is playing host to some Christmas joy and cheer with a mix of Novocastrian musicians playing free this Saturday. The Nickson Wing, Holly Who, The Hunters, Marissa Saroca and Jay Chase will be showcasing their talents while encouraging audience members to pop a few dollars in their “Thank You Tins”. These proceeds will be distributed to local families doing it tough through The Salvation Army Christmas Appeal.

Sunday 23rd December
Love Can Christmas Celebration @ Hunter Theatre
“The Voice” finalist Chris Sebastian will be performing live at this special Christmas Celebration at the Hunter Theatre, Cameron Street, Broadmeadow. A free sausage sizzle, roaming Christmas performers and activities for the kids will keep the whole family happy. Starting times - 9.30 and 11am.
Monday 24th December
Carols at the Pub @ Mattara Hotel
With all the Christmas shopping finished, it is time to unwind and listen to some Carols at the Pub. Starting at 6pm, “Talk of the Town” will get your vocal chords moving, with a surprise stop from Santa during the night. The Bistro will be open till late, so there is plenty of time to grab a feed and listen to some songs to get you prepared for the big day tomorrow.

Boxing Day After Party @ King Street Hotel
Where does everyone go after the races? King Street Hotel is putting on its annual After Party from 5pm. There will be free buses from the races to get you to this party location, but you don’t need to have gone to the races to enjoy this massive line-up of performers, including major drawcard Bag Raiders. With 3 levels plus the laneway to get you grooving, this is one After Party you will remember.

Cosmo Jarvis @ Cambridge Hotel
This popular Triple J and YouTube singer is bringing his sound to Newcastle after the release of his third album, “Think Bigger”. His music and films have shot him to fame, his YouTube shorts in the form of comedy skits about small town life, have garnered 3.7 million views. His shanty single ‘Gay Pirates’ has clocked over 1 million hits along. Having just toured Germany and the UK, this talented 22 year-old is set to become even bigger.
