Here is your jam-packed What’s On guide for Newcastle this week! The Kathmandu Adventure Series hits our town across two days, Cliff Richard and Celtic Thunder will be rocking Newcastle Entertainment Centre + stacks more on offer.
Friday 1st February
Celtic Thunder @ Newcastle Entertainment Centre
Are you a fan of Irish bands? Then you certainly don’t want to miss out on this show! Having sold out venues in Australia last year, they are back to play a brand new show with band members Keith Harkin, Ryan Kelly, George Donaldson, Emmett Cahill, and Neil Byrne. Playing various styles of Celtic music, from Traditional Irish Music and Classic Love songs to contemporary Irish songs, these gents should certainly have the ladies swooning by the end of the night. If their accents aren’t enough to convince you to see them, their worldwide praise certainly will. Being crowned Billboard’s Top World Artist, Album and Imprint for 2009 and 2011, as well as opening the Saint Patrick’s Day Parade in New York City and playing for President Obama at The White House in 2009, this band is unbeatable. Forever and a Day + Past Is Practice + The Spinset + Kiss Me! @ Cambridge Hotel
Coming out of Newcastle, Forever and a Day is a mix of punk, screamo and ‘crunch’, bringing a bit of metal back to the Cambridge. Doors open 8pm. $10 on the door.
Saturday 2nd February
Hunter Track Challenge @ Hunter Sports Centre, Glendale
This ‘grand prix’ style athletics meet will be showcasing some of Australia’s best athletes, from U/14 events right up to professionals. There will be various events carried out across the athletics discipline such as discus, high jump, javelin, hurdles, steeplechase and track races, so come down and see these stars bring all they’ve got. With events running constantly from 4.30pm to 9pm, there won’t be a boring minute.
The Olive Tree Market @ The Junction Public School
This handmade artisan market is not one to miss! Explore the stalls, meet the artisans and collect some handmade goodness. The stalls cover a range of different arts and crafts, including printmaking, jewellery, design, fashion, handmade toys, photography, ceramics plus more! Food and coffee can also be enjoyed while listening to local musicians Samba Frog and Fode Mane. Newcastle Jets VS Sydney FC @ Hunter Stadium
It’s that time again when Newcastle Jets clash with Sydney FC. Gates open 4.30pm for a 5.30pm kick-off. Adult tickets start at $22 and Child tickets at $8. Kathmandu Adventure Series @ Glenrock State Conservation Area
Are you up for a little adventure? The Kathmandu Adventure Series is designed to offer the perfect introduction to the sport of adventure racing. Designed for teams of two, this event will have teams changing between three core disciplines several times throughout the race - mountain biking, running/trekking, and kayaking. There is no time for boredom or tiredness as this non-stop event will take two to six hours to complete. For full details and late entry visit the Adventure Series website. Event goes from 9am-3pm. Nobbys Lighthouse Open
Again it is Sunday and again you have another chance to experience excellent views of the city from Nobbys Headland. Don’t miss your chance to see this Newcastle treasure up close. There isn’t too many Sundays left of Summer until the grounds close again. Open 10am to 4pm, a kiosk will serve tea, coffee, cake and other light refreshments, or why not have a picnic with your loved ones? FREE Entry.

Cardio Tennis Workshop @ District Park Tennis Club (aka Club LED)
Upset that the Australian Open is over for another year? Get your own tennis fix mixed with some cardio fun at Broadmeadow today from 10am-2pm.
