This weekend Fat As Butter kicks off another music festival season, seminal hip-hop legends Bone Thugs & Harmony return and the Hunter Rugby League and Rugby Union Grand Finals take place; ensuring no matter what your tastes, there’s enough to keep you entertained this week.

Friday September 21

Captain Of The Push @ Cambridge Hotel (Side Bar)

Captain of the Push bring their Doors-influenced garage rock ‘n’ roll to the Cambridge Hotel this Friday night. Formed in late 2011, COTP have recently released their first EP, which was mastered by internationally renowned, Don Bartley.

DJ DRAGON will be opening the night and playing tunes throughout proceedings.

The Flattrakkers @ Newcastle Leagues Club

After a successful 3rd album, Winner Takes All, in 2011 and two previous albums Speedcar Demon and of course High Octane still selling strong across the globe, excitement is building and the punters are wanting more. Fat As Butter Festival @ Camp Shortland, The Foreshore

The annual Fat As Butter returns this Saturday with its largest and most eclectic lineup.

Good Charlotte, 360, Grinspoon, Yellowcard, Wheatus, The Mystery Jets and many more will be transforming the serene Foreshore setting into an enthralling spectacle.

The festival is down to its last 1000 General Admission tickets and last 100 VIP tickets.

Community Music Open Day @ The Conservatorium

Come along to the Community Open Day at the Con, Saturday September 22nd and grab your chance to play a musical instrument, sing with a choir or just see how we make music. Free demonstrations and workshops in most popular instruments. There’s even special sessions for the littlies. Admission is free with a lucky door prize of four free lessons in an instrument of your choice. The fun begins at 9.00 am and will continue until 1.00 pm. Experience the pleasure that only playing a musical instrument can give.

Newcastle Rugby League Grand Finals @ No.1 Sportsground

The Newcastle Rugby league Grand Finals will be held this Sunday at No.1 Sports Ground.

First grade sees last year’s runners up, Western Suburbs, go up against 2010, 2009 & 2008 runners up, Cessnock.

Both teams will be hoping to go one better than their previous Grand Final appearances this Sunday.

The Newi Awards @ The Delany 

The NEWi Awards is designed to celebrate the best online talent chosen by the members of The Lunaticks Society of Newcastle.

The awards program has six main categories: Best Website; Best Online Publication; Best Online Creative Content, which includes images, animation, games, video and more; Best Mobile Application; Best Blogger; and Digital Citizen of the Year called The Joe Award, which recognises emerging digital talent.

Kodo & Taikoz In Concert @ Civic Theatre
