Did you catch Zenana Women as part of last year’s Newcastle Fashion Week? It’s an ethical clothing label and you can preview their upcoming range now on Facebook. The clothing is designed in Australia with Australian women & their lifestyles in mind, and stitched in the Indian city of Lucknow. You can find their range stocked at Rainbow Runner (94A Beaumont St, Hamilton), Salawi (462 Hunter St, Newcastle), Ritzy Labels (Shop 16, Markettown), D’Vine in the Hunter (Pokolbin Village Resort, Broke Road), Amy Reid (Shop 9, The Junction Village, Kenrick St, The Junction) & Dress to Impress (Shop 1, 472 The Esplanade, Warners Bay).

Newcastle favourites High Tea with Mrs Woo have started a Facebook page - keep up to date with this local success story!

Do you know about The Bubble?

The Bubble, a mentorship initiative by General Pants Co., creates a forum for young talent to be found, recognised & nurtured. It’s for artists of all mediums (incl. photographers, writers, filmmakers, musicians, design etc) and encourages you to submit your work online. Create the most interesting work (determined every 2 months by public vote) & you will be commissioned to produce material for display in General Pants Co. stores, supported to stage your own exhibitions, gigs or readings, and get features in Russh & Monster Children.

The grand plan is for General Pants to develop a strong talent pool for their own recruitment, and they also allocate funding towards promoting the group so that participants can nail jobs elsewhere.

Helen Henry grew up in Newcastle, and in 2010 graduated with a Bachelor of Communication from the local University. This was pleasing because it made her officially qualified to communicate about the things she likes most: music and the music industry, photography, digital, cute animals and her friends & family. Most recently, Helen worked as a Digital Projects Assistant at Sticky Advertising and was Editor of Urban Insider. She has recently landed a pretty sweet gig working in the music industry in Sydney.
