Op Shops You Should Visit
Second-hand stores, Recycled Clothing Boutiques, Op Shops. A rose by any other name would smell as delightfully musty.
Whatever you wish to call them, they have had a huge resurgence. The locations indicated below are the stores which are riding this wave of popularity while keeping out of date with current trends, making them 7 Op Shops You Should Visit.
Cirila's Boutique
In the heart of trendy Cooks Hill, Cirila's Boutique offers clothing and jewellery gems, as well as alteration services for those who wish to reinvent their finds but don't possess the steady hand or skill set to do so.
Emma Soup & The Soup Can Gallery
Emma Soup is a Vintage Boutique and Gallery run by Newcastle girl Emma Taylor. The quirky Hunter Street space is home to local art and designs including some by Emma herself and would appeal to those searching for something unique.
Love It Again
The bright pink façade of Love It Again is an insight to the eclectic pre-loved designer clothes and accessories re-sold here. Love It Again began as a means of perpetual spring-cleaning for founder Jo and others to gain a return on their designer clothes and find others at affordable prices. Half an hour from the Newcastle CBD, Love It Again is well worth the drive.
Second To None
Second to None is a Recycled Designer Boutique which offers a consignment service perfect for any shopaholic feeling the pinch of these economic times! At Second to None you can peruse the pre-loved designer clothing for purchases or re-sell your own items.
Memory Lane Boutique
Memory Lane Boutique is located within the Australian Alpaca Barn*, on the main road of Morpeth. This location yields the shops recycled clothing with a cute country edge. Road trip to Morpeth and take a stroll down memory lane. *NB not an actual barn.
The Bower Bird
Bowerbirds are known for their penchant for sparkly and bright objects and as the quaint namesake suggests the stock on hand is glitzy enough to bring out the bowerbird in all of us. The Bower Bird is perfect to scour for retro 80s prom get-ups and faux-fur coats.
Metro Retro
With op-shopping becoming so trendy most stores have been thoroughly picked over. Metro Retro appears to be an exception. Tucked away in the back of a costume shop and two doors down from another well known charity store it is a little secret most other op-shoppers wont stumble across, it is an ideal op shop.
You’ve left off the (in my opinion) best vintage store around, which is Lil and I on Maitland Road, Islington 🙂 And right around the corner is a cool little recycled clothing store (I think it’s called Twice Upon a Time or something like that) - it’s just past Suspension.
Hi Holly, thanks very much! We’ll definitely investigate Lil & I and look at growing our list. Anyone else know of any others?
Before It Began (at 14 Thorn St near Hunter St Mall) stocks an exciting range of vintage and recycled clothes as well as locally designed garments.
Thanks Nicole! It’s really great to be getting this kind of feedback - we’ll check it out and possibly look at expanding our list 🙂
Twice upon a time; 15 Beaumont street, islington. An eclectic collection of quality second hand designer brands, vintage, boots, shoes and bags.
