Newcastle’s Walking Hot Spots
Walking is one of my favourite pass times - it’s relaxing, peaceful and not to mention good for your health. Newcastle is full of great places to go for a stroll or a full on power walk. Whatever strikes your fancy, these destinations will sure be the fitting environment for a stroll in the city.
Warners Bay
There are many variables to this track depending on where you begin. The track can start or end in either Booragul, near the Lake Macquarie Art Gallery or Eleebana. A favourite of mine is Speers Point to Warners Bay and back - it's the right distance for a good old power walk and catch up with a friend teamed with stunning views of the surrounding lake.
Merewether Beach to Strzelecki Lookout
This very popular walking track is again, another dynamic area that can tailored to your liking. Merewether Beach stairs are great for cardio and well, if you did the whole stretch from Merewether Beach to Strzelecki Lookout, it would be your cardio for the week! With stunning views of the ocean and Newcastle city, this walk shows Newcastle off at it's finest.
Nobby's Breakwall
This is a beautiful walk full of interaction along the way - the dogs playing at Horeshoe Beach, wind surfers and the Lighthouse. It is so deeply relaxing at the end of the breakwall and in a sense feels as though you have stepped into another world. You may even see a dolphine, seal or wale - something that never gets too old.
Glen Rock Lagoon
Glen Rock is part of the beautiful Great North Walk and starts in Kahibah. A little off the beaten track, this walk is great for nature lovers and those that enjoy the outdoors. Leading to Legge Beach, the walk itself brings out a childish innocence and a sense of freedom only to be experienced on the walk.
Stockton Breakwall
Another coastal favourite just across the harbour. If you don't feel like driving over the Stockton Bridge you always have the option to catch the ferry - a beloved Newcastle icon. This little journey doesn't escape from the magical views of Newcastle Harbour.
