It's Brunchtime in Newcastle!

Breakfast. Lunch. Br-unch. What have previously been two separate courses, have combined to become this super course where breakfast foods are available, not only during the breakfast timeslot, but during the lunch timeslot as well!

What was once possibly the riskiest move a person could make on a lazy Sunday, has become the norm… No longer do we have to question cafe’s whether we can have pancakes at 1 o’clock in the afternoon, the prayers of the public have finally been answered. Yes, we can have pancakes at 1 in the afternoon. Instead of being answered with a surly ‘no’, now when we ask for eggs at noon our waiter’s only query lies with your decision to have them sunny side up or scrambled.

As one of the appeals of brunch is it being a meal which is lazy, relaxing and satisfying, it makes sense that so many people opt to have their brunch somewhere other than home, i.e. out in Newcastle cafes where the cooking and cleaning is not a part of the equation, and a ‘chillaxed’ ambiance is a given.

With so many places in Newcastle offering Brunch these days, perhaps it is about time someone suggested some of the most peachy places to go next Sunday morning… or for the keen Bruncher, tomorrow morning… or quite possibly, right now!

Paymaster's

18 Bond Street Newcastle East 2300 Visit Paymaster's 49 252600

My absolute favourite place to go for brunch… this status lies firstly with the food and secondly with the location. Paymaster’s, just a hop skip and a jump directly back from Newcastle Harbour and Foreshore and makes the BEST deep pan buttermilk pancakes in the world. Enough said?

Generally Darby Street

Darby Street Cooks Hill 2300

You’re on Darby St. Close you eyes, turn around three times and point… Open your eyes. Chances are your point will direct you to a café serving a bangin’ brunch… from Goldberg’s Coffee House, Grind Coffee Co. and 3 Monkeys Cafe, to Longbench, Zinc on Darby and Soho on Darby. Take your pick. All scrumptious, all alluring, and all alive with the buzz of Darby Street. Hurry, seating everywhere is limited!

Bella Beans

45 The Esplanade Warners Bay 49 474999

A somewhat well kept secret of the locals of Warners Bay and surrounding suburbs. Bella Beans is one of those little, humble cafes that succeeds because of its homely food and warm, friendly service. One of my favourites to go for a lazy Brunch, with a side of ‘p and q’.

Jonah's on the Beach

Shortland Esplanade Newcastle 2300 Visit Jonah's on the Beach 49 295181

The weekend ritual of exercising and brunching seems to be increasing in popularity. For me, and apparently quite a few others, there’s nothing more relaxing than going for a long walk/run along the beach to up the heartbeat, then having a relaxed Brunch wherever you end up… Why not end up at Jonah’s on the Beach?

The Source Café

Shop 1 74/76 The Lane Maryville 2293 Visit The Source Café 49 408023

This little café is hidden among the residential apartments along Linwood St Wickham, it too seems to be one of the cafés kept secret by the locals who call those apartments home. The Source Café is another café that seems to keep locals coming back with their pleasant and attentive staff, and their deliciously twisted classic food. I’m lucky to have recently discovered it for myself!
