Sourdough Baker Cafe
Finally, a cafe devoted to sourdough. The woodfired oven is the hub of the cafe and ensures that Warwick Quinton's sourdough is baked to perfection. Quinton also uses the oven to prepare the majority of the menu which includes pizza, cakes and even the meat on sandwiches! Fancy yourself a baker? Hit up a sourdough baking workshop and learn from the master. Once you've learnt how to bake sourdough, the special ingredients, such as 20 year old sourdough starters, are available to buy at the cafe.
Newcastle City Farmers Market
Every Sunday, Newcastle City Farmers Market is a hub for Australian quality food producers. Here you can find the biodynamic sourdough bread of Fosterton Farm Bakery and the certified organic sourdough of Bill’s Organic Bakery.
Snow's Patisserie
Snow's Patisserie is always a favourite for sweet treats and sourdough delights. They also have locations at Westfield Kotara, Broadmeadow and Charlestown.
Three Bean
Hungry for breakfast? Three Bean include delicious sourdough in many of their breakfast menu choices. Three Bean is one of Newcastle's most bustling cafes, especially for breakfast. So if you're planning to head there, be sure to make a reservation. If you'd rather scoff sourdough at home, it's also available to take away.
Morpeth Sourdough
Morpeth Sourdough is the Hunter region's most famous sourdough producer. This bakery is steeped in history and has been operating since the 1860s. The bakery was founded by biscuit extraordinaire, William Arnott. Today William's great, great, great grandson Steph continues the family business as a 6th generation baker.
The Essential Ingredient
You don't have to leave town to experience Morpeth Sourdough; it's stocked by The Essential Ingredient.
Don’t forget Jordan’s Bakery. Great sourdough as well. 2 locations at NEW Lambton and Newcastle/Honeysuckle.
The sourdough Baker cafe’s loaves are so delicious and they serve great breakfasts at pretty good prices. Hard to beat!
The bakery at Booral also makes a great sourdough…and a nice drive up the Bucketts Way.
You don’t have to wait until market days for Bill’s Organics. They’re also stocked at Coles and Woolworths. I think they might be at Natural Tucker on Darby Street too. The Apricot and Fig loaf at the markets is delicious.
Jordans Bakery at New Lambton. The best sourdough bread in Australia.
DEFINITELY missing Jordan’s Bakery at New Lambton and Honeysuckle - their pumpkin and honey and almond sourdoughs are amazing!!!
