For those of us just wanting to drink tea, not brew it, High Tea has been created to indulge in a cup of fine tea with a serving of decadent sweets and treats. We have found the best High Tea destinations in Newcastle, so you can all enjoy this wonderful pleasure.
Fernwood High Tea Newcastle
Located in the Junction, this high tea experience will be one to remember. Hideaway in the secret gardens or a beautifully decorated tea room with pretty little doilies and linen tableclothes. The menu boasts homemade shortbread and cookies as well as all of the regular treats. Reservations are essential.
Bacchus Restaurant
Bacchus Restaurant in Newcastle offers high tea that was designed not for lunch or dinner but for an indulgent afternoon experience. Bacchus was awarded a Chefs Hat this year and is featured in the Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide 2010 & 2011. This makes for a promising delicious feast. High Tea runs on one Sunday a month and if your after a bevvy, a glass of sparking wine can be included.
Novotel Newcastle Beach
The Novotel offers traditional high tea with a contemporary twist by including some hot canapes. If you want to spice things up you can order a cocktail or two from the bar. High Tea is on every Saturday & Sunday from 12-3pm, and booking are essential.
Ducks Crossing
Ducks Crossing has claimed that they are one of a few places who know what high tea is! The restaurant is in the heart of Lake Macquarie and was recently awarded with a Chefs Hat. They offer an 'Olde English Style High Tea' which sounds interesting. You do need a minimum of 8 people so be sure to make an event of it! Once again, bookings are essential.
Tower Lodge
For a mini roadtrip on the weekend up to the Hunter Valley be sure to reserve a table for the Tower Lodge high tea. Tower Lodge runs high tea on a Saturday and Sunday and has unlimited tea, to drink til your hearts content!
Have you tried High Tea at Wickham Motorcycle Co at Throsby St Wickham? It’s a fabulous experience with all of the touches you would expect from an old fashioned High Tea. Everything is made on the premises especially for each High Tea and it’s great value for money.
