A Guide to New Years Eve 2011 in Newcastle
Yep, it’s December already, and allegedly Summer is upon us! As we move into the last few weeks of work (or the first weeks of holidays for students) it’s time to think about the fun to be had ringing in the new year! Whether you’re after waterside cocktails, rockin’ live music or something the whole family can enjoy this New Years Eve in Newcastle, there’s something for everyone. Here is a quick guide to a some of your options…

The Brewery
Each year The Brewery pulls out all stops & brings some big acts to town to party harbourside. This year Triple J favourites Gypsy & the Cat and Sparkadia will hit the stage, giving you chance to soak up some Australian tunes with a great vantage point for the Newcastle Foreshore fireworks. Tickets are $50, or there's a VIP option for $150, and are available on the website, also from Oztix and the venue itself. This one is sure to be packed, so get in quickly! 18+ only.
Newcastle Foreshore
The thrill of staying up for the fireworks on New Years Eve is sure to delight the kids, so if you're looking for a family friendly option why not head to Newcastle Foreshore. There will be amusements, food & live entertainment. Keep in mind that it's a popular destination with limited parking so you might prefer to jump on a bus or train to Newcastle Station. Fireworks are at 9pm and 12am.
The Great Northern Hotel
If you want to stick in the CBD, consider heading to the Great Northern, where Newcastle alt-rockers The Seabellies and The Owls will be playing along with Tasmania's theatrical Enola Fall. Doors open at 7pm. Tickets are just $23.50 + bf from Oztix or $25 on the door. 18+ only.
Silo
The Honeysuckle boardwalk is set to come to life this New Years Eve, and Silo will be serving up at 5 course menu in celebration! Kick off is 7pm and for $140 you'll get the 5 course degustation menu and a premium beverage package. Book early.
Isobar
If you're looking for a little glamour this NYE, Isobar will play host to their annual 42 Below NYE White Party. Dress in your best white gear (it's a strictly white dress code) and join in the fun. You'll get canapes on arrival and an all inclusive drinks package including 42 Below vodka and a signature cocktail, be entertained by DJ Matt Meler and view the fireworks at 9pm and 12am. You can also upgrade to include a 3 course meal. Kick off is 7:30pm. Tickets are strictly limited and are $145pp for the canapes package or $195pp for the 3 course meal package. 18+ only.
The Depot on Beaumont
The Depot is a favourite for tapas & drinks for many in Newcastle, and on New Years Eve they'll be doing what they do best. Head along for tapas, beer, wine & champagne for $130 from 7pm til 1am. Entertainment by the Matt Purcell Trio. Bookings are essential.
Lass O'Gowrie
The Lass will be playing host to its Super Happy Fun New Years Eve Party. The night will feature performances from talented local acts including Tommy 9 Fingers, The Young Pretties, Bones Jones & The Skeletones & Pornskas. Tickets are just $20 and are available from the venue. If you love the Lass vibe, don't miss this opportunity to ring in the new year with this colourful crowd.
