A Day-by-Day Guide to Newcastle: Wednesday
Wednesdays in Newcastle are probably best known for the infamous Student Nights, where University students grace all the pubs and clubs in town before dragging themselves to their 9am lecture (if they’re that unlucky). So whether you are planning on joining in on the crawl for student deals, or would like to steer away from it all, we have a fun list of things to do on a Wednesday in Newcastle!
If you have stumbled upon any other hidden gems of what to do on a Wednesday night in Newcastle, comment below & make sure you let us know!
Isobar
Feeling like some $4 schooners and spirits teamed with $10 nachos or pizza? It's as simple as flashing your student card at Isobar on the Honeysuckle precinct. Establishing itself as one of the best bar's along Honeysuckle, Isobar provides beautiful views with spectacular savings on student night. Kicking off at 6pm - word is they've also got $8 carafes!
Lizotte's Newcastle
Lizotte's opens up on Wednesday nights to showcase the best local talent that Newcastle has to offer. Proud to support local artists or upcoming stars, for some tunes in an amazing intimate environment Lizotte's is your place to go on a Wednesday night. With different artists each week & tickets only $15 each with al a carte and bar menus available, this is the perfect option for anyone wanting to skip on the student night spectacle in town.
The Kent Hotel
It's Reef & Beef Wednesday every week at The Kent! Located down one of Newcastle's busiest, call into The Kent to pick up your steak & seafood with chips & salad for $14.95 (bargain). Then feel free to stick around for a bit of trivia at 7.30pm before having a few too many drinks & dancing to local DJs until late.
The Albion Hotel
Pull out your poker face because Wednesday nights at The Albion Hotel is Poker Night! Cheap entry fee & the chance to win up big is always a bonus - even better, there's free finger food for players. Being voted as the highest rating for NSW in the Sydney Morning Herald's "Good Pub Food Guide 2011", you know it's good pub grub. Once you collect your winnings, it's then just an easy walk across into Honeysuckle or Newcastle West to hit the town as well.
Fanny's Nightclub
It's almost inevitable. Wednesday nights, as much as you may fight it, that little trek down Wharf Road happens & you wake up in the morning, covered in red sticky drink & sore from too much dancing. UNIversal night at Fanny's means there's cheap entry & cheap drinks.
The Belmont Hotel
Too far to get to the CBD? Want something a little more low key for your Hump Day? Head to The Belmont near Lake Macquarie for Wednesday night's pool comp.. and Rockaoke? If you're as intrigued as I am head down to The Belmont, and don't forget to register early for pool - games start at 6.30pm.
The Hotel Delany
Remember what your mum says, it's always important to line your stomach before a big night out. On a Wednesday night the Del on Darby is the place for this, for just $11.90 you can pick up a mouth-watering steak cooked however you like it (Mother's are always right).
The Burwood Inn
If you want to keep up the academia on a Wednesday night, check out trivia at The Burwood Inn. Kick off is 7pm. If you were more for beer & eats than books, chicken schnitty's are $13.50 for members.
Queens Wharf Brewery
Gotta love Hump Day - it's literally all down hill for the rest of the week. And the Brewery is giving us even more reason to love Wednesday's! Students just have to show their student cards and be treated to half price pizza's, cheap drinks & special cocktails from 7pm & then a DJ upstairs from 10pm.
The Cambridge
Wednesday nights are Antics nights at The Cambridge and a good place to catch some live original music. It's another popular student venue, so they offer up free entry, free pool and cheapish drinks from 8:30pm. Check the site each week to see what bands are playing. You can also head round to the Denison St side of the pub and check out new venue Chino's while you're there. They sell long necks over the bar. Nuff said.
