This Week in Newcastle: Tour Launches, Happy Hours & FREE STUFF!

Friday 25 March
Feel like a touch of art this weekend? There are a number of art exhibitions floating around Newcastle this week.
What’s not to love about Friday?! So why not celebrate Fridays with Happy Friday at the Dockyard. Happy Friday starts at 5pm and is accompanied with a free snag to soak up those Friday afternoon beverages. Cocktail happy hour starts at 7pm and live music later in the night.
Gareth Liddiard from Aussie rock group The Drones will be at Lizottes Newcastle tonight. Bookings are essential, for more info and tickets.
AJAX & Light Year will be at King Street Hotel serving up the goods. With $5 entry for students and cheap drinks from 9pm to 1am, if clubbing is your thing, don’t miss this.
Saturday 26 March
If you’re feeling lucky or just wanting an excuse to put on a dress and heels, head over to Newcastle Jockey Club. Tickets are only $8 at the door or $7 in advance, so why not make a day of it.
Oh Mercy will be taking the stage at The Northern Star in Hamilton as part of their Great Barrier Grief tour. Let them take you on an emotional journey from 9.30pm and tickets are essential for entry. The band will be supported by Gosling.
Local artists Kira Puru & The Bruise will be launching their ‘The Streetlights Tour’ at the Cambridge Hotel. Presale tickets are $12 or $15 on the door.
The CBD are hosting free indie rock every Saturday night. This weeks artists include KOKO, Sydney Girls Choir, 1929 Indian, The Chestnuts and Asteroids. Doors open at 8pm.
Sunday 27 March
Any Given Sunday will once again be on a King Street Hotel to cater to the mood for a few Sunday beverages and a dance or two.
Tuesday 29 March
Jazz Underground is a new edition to the Grand Hotel’s calender. Every Tuesday, the Newcastle Improvised Music Association (NIMA) takes over the cool underground room and presents local and touring jazz musicians. This week, jazz pianist Tom Vincent brings his trio to town. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased on the door.
Wednesday 30 March
The Dirty Decadence Wednesdays at Silk Bar have grown and introduced a whole new crowd (& vibe) to the old Duck’s Nuts Hotel. If you haven’t been along to one, tonight is your last chance - the last Dirty Decadence evening ever has been announced and they’re serving up an night of indulgence for blues, roots & trad rock ‘n’ roll fans! The line up includes Mother & Son (Wollongong), Bowen & The Lucky Dutchmen, Forbes & Friends and dub-step extraordinaire Steve P. Things kick off at 8pm, free entry.
If you and your friends think of yourselves as music pros, test out your knowledge at The Great Northern’s Geeks & Beats music trivia. Who knows, you may actually learn something!
The Watt Space Gallery is showcasing a number of exhibitions until Sunday 17th April. The gallery is home to artworks produced by current students at the University of Newcastle. More info on exhibitions and times.
Thursday 31 March
Aussie band The Herd, will be at the Cambridge Hotel celebrating 10 years since their debut on the music scene. Doors open at 8pm. Tickets and info.
A delight for Aussie music lovers, the Bar on the Hill will be hosting Sparkadia on their Great Impression Tour with support from Operator Please and Alpine.
