This Week in Newcastle: Music, Markets and Togas!

Things to do in Newcastle

Friday 15 April

I was surprised there wasn’t a great deal happening tonight in Newcastle but I couldn’t not post anything for today because let’s face it, the weekend begins with Friday!

But never fear, Lizottes Newcastle to the rescue!  The Bob Corbett Band of alternate country, folk and bluegrass sounds are back by popular demand.  For more info and tickets.

To commemorate the beginning of the weekend, Friday afternoon drinks are always a fave.  In the coming the weeks, the People’s Choice for Afternoon Drinks in Newcastle will be posted so keep an eye out for that and get ready to bask in the afternoon sunshine.

Saturday 16 April

Morrow Park Bowling Club is hosting an awesome Vintage Sale.  Everything vintage from clothing to jewellery will be on sale for $5!!! If you have a few spare bucks and a passion for vintage anything, be there!   Starts at 10am and finishes at 4pm.

Young Revelry will be playing a gig at the Great Northern Hotel with locals 1929Indian and Buried Horses & Jarrah Thompson. Young Revelry are new on the music scene and are supporting Children Collide on their tour around the country.  They won a spot to play at Perth’s Laneway Festival from Triple J’s unearthed competition and are headlining their own shows in Western Australia.  This indie rock band are hitting the scene hard and fast and we will be seeing a lot more of them.  Doors open at 9pm with free entry.

Wednesday 20 April

Aussie talent Xavier Rudd will be playing a show at Newcastle Panthers tonight.  Originally from Victoria, this free spirited Australian will be bringing his surf-folk sound to Newcastle - a show that should not disappoint.  Presale tickets can be bought online at Moshtix but if you happen to be going as a last minute venture, tickets can be bought at the door for $50.

The Bar on the Hill will be hosting it’s annual toga party.  DJ novelty act, Timmy Trumpet, will be there and no doubt will be getting in the spirit of the toga party madness.  The night will consists of gladiator games and a free bus into town - free entry for students and $10 for everyone else.  Yes, wear a toga but bring safety pins to avoid a ‘flashing’!  Visit Togaboy’s tips on how to make a toga.
