Friday, 12 August

Monique Brumby is performing for Newcastle tonight at Lizottes Newcastle. Monique is a two time ARIA Award winning musician and is preparing to release her 5th album this October titled Half Moon Half Everything. The Australian artist will knock your socks off with her amazing talent, so get down to Lizottes and enjoy! More info.

If you’ve been waiting for an opportunity to dress up as a cat, this is it! Get yourself to Creative Cats at CBD Hotel tonight and enjoy sets by Mixtape Memoirs, Little Dottie, Holland and Nova & The Experience. There’s a prize for best dressed cat. More info.

Saturday, 13 August

Newcastle Vintage Fashion Fair will be held at Newcastle Town Hall today selling beautiful vintage clothing, jewellery and accessories from the 1930s on. The fair will feature dealers From Here To Eternity, Classic Vintage, Yasmin’s Retro, Circa, Coco Repose and many more. Entry is $10 and the fair will be open from 9am till 5pm.

Tonight the UMBRA Theatrical Gothic Belly Dance presents Evernight 3 at Mayfield Diggers. Evernight 3 is a theatrical performance that captures its audiences with dance, theatrics, costume, music, props, movement and magic! With a special guest performance by Ariellah and some profits going to Autism Spectrum Australia, this event is sure to excite as you are entertained while supporting a worthy cause! More info.

Get your rockabilly on with the Pat Capocci Combo at the Wickham Park Hotel tonight. Pat is renowned for his amazing guitar technique and energetic stage performances. After growing up in the Hunter, he has gone on to perform at festivals across Australia and has sat in and performed with the likes of Bruce Mathiske & The Red Hot Poker Dots. He is currently the lead guitarist in Danny & the Cosmic Tremors. Catch him today for your dose of rock n roll.

Croudace Bay Puppy Playgroup Cupcake Day! What a mouthful! Treat yourself and your puppy to a morning of fun and games and treats this Sunday at Croudace Bay Park from 8am onwards! Be prepared for an insane number of dogs running wild as they will more than likely be hyped up on doggy cupcakes! All proceeds from this event will go to the RSPCA. More info.

The Wallsend Winter Carnivale is on today, to join in the family fun with carnival rides, music, Zumba, belly dancing, a talent quest and a ukelele workshop. More info.

Tuesday, 16 August

Catch the amazing Terence Koo in his element at Jazz at The Underground (The Grand Hotel) this week. He’ll be joined by Andrew Wallace (double bass) and Rob Coxon (drums). Kicks of at 8pm. $10 entry.

Wednesday, 17 August

Get your Wednesday night music fill with the cool, upbeat & funky Fox Control at The Northern Star Hotel. There’ll be a mix of originals & covers lead by Huw “Baby Legs” Jones. You may have spotted Huw playing alongside former Screaming Jet Grant Walmsley in the Agents of Peace or local blues sensation Zoe K.

There’ll be more local music being shared at Lizottes Newcastle’s Live n Local night. Each Wednesday, local acts take to the stage. This week it’s September Chase, The Convicts, James Thompson & Grace Turner. Doors open 7:30pm. Entry is $15. Call 4956 2066 to book.

Thursday, 18 August

Sneak a peek at the life drawing trend sweeping Newcastle by checking out Drawn Upstairs at Newcastle Art Space. The exhibition, which runs until 28 August, is a collaboration by artists and students from a selection of Newcastle’s life drawing studios. Go along to pick up a new piece of art for your living room or for more information about the classes each studio offers. The exhibition is at 246 Parry St, Newcastle and can be viewed Thursday - Sunday from 12pm - 5pm.

Melbourne folk rockers The Vasco Era will perform at The Cambridge tonight. Beat Magazine has described them as “utter brilliance”. To see what they’re on about, head along tonight. Tickets available here or at the door.

If dirty dirty blues is more your thing, check out US slide guitar star Bob Log III at The CBD Hotel. This one-man-band wears a jump suit and a motorcycle helmet, and marries quick Delta blues with lyrics about boobs. Supported by Bones Jones & the Skeletones (that’s me! - Ed.). Friday, 19 August

From beginners to seasoned professionals, if you’re into anything crafty (patchwork, sewing, fashion, beading, painting and much more!) then check out the Newcastle Craft Expo. 10am - 4:30pm. The Expo runs until 21st August. More info.

Looking for some tunes to finish out the work week? Check out Loon Lake and The Owls at The CBD Hotel. Melbourne 5-piece Loon Lake are visiting town as part of their Not Just Friends tour to promote the new single from their acclaimed EP of the same name.

Saturday, 20 August

If you make, bake or grow it then bring it to the Hunter Valley Gardens Village Vibes Market! This event is held on the 3rd Saturday of every month, from 10am till 4pm. More info.

There’s a huge day of music at The Lass today! Go along from 1pm and enjoy tunes by Andrew Richmond, Landon Elliot River, Michael Cera Tops Duo, James Thomson, Lachlan Collins, The Owls, Ranger Spacey, I Am The Agent, The Rainy Day Men, Boatfriends, Post Paint, The Howlin’ Nancies & Run Squirrel. Sunday, 21 August

Newcastle brides-to-be, check out the August Bridal Fair at Newcastle Jockey Club today. Tickets are $10, with %20 of proceeds going to the Hunter Medical Research Institute. More info.
