The time of year has rolled around once again.  For some, Easter is a religious celebration of the resurrection of Christ, and for others it’s a great excuse to pack up the car and head north for a coastal camping trip.  But for those of you still in Newcastle this Easter long weekend, never fear, there are still many exciting things to keep you entertained.

Friday 22 April - Black Friday

Today is a public holiday and a great excuse to gorge on seafood, if you are so inclined.  However, being a public holiday, there is a limited selection of things to do tonight.

The Kensington Hotel is hosting an exclusive ticketed fundraising event, The Good Friday Fundraiser.  Half of all tickets sold will be donated to the Hope for Cambodian Children Foundation.  Tickets are $20 and include entry, entertainment and complimentary canapes served throughout the night.

Saturday 23 April

The King Street Hotel is hosting their Our House Easter Edition with 4 rooms and 10 DJs to keep you in the party mood.  Doors open at 9am - tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door.

Harbass Easter will be on again at the Cambridge Hotel.  According to the club, this year’s Harbass is bigger and better than before.  The line-up includes, NIk Fish, Suae, Audio Damage and Luke Spellbound. Adding to this awesome line up is the Cambridge’s ground shaking sound system and laser system.  Tickets can be bought from Moshtix.

Sunday 24 April - Easter Sunday

The CBD are hosting the Easter Dance Land featuring Yolanda be Cool - what is this you may ask? The event will feature over 15 acts across 3 stages, with the best local DJ’s teaming up with one of the hottest dance outfits in Australia for the best Easter party in Newcastle. At only $15 bucks presale it’s great value – but best of all – you have two public holidays to recover!  Yolanda be Cool made a massive debut onto the Dance music scene in 2010 with their hit, We Speak No Americano.  Also with With Hebzy / Steve P / Beatnik DJs / Juzzy / Nick Gurr / DJ Fooey / Monarch / Dpre / Jenkins / A.I. / Dublife DJs / Dj Marv / D-Activ-8 / Boatfriends DJs / Enad / Wasted Sound.  For more info and tickets.

Monday 25 April - ANZAC Day

ANZAC services will be held all around the city today.  Nobby’s Beach are hosting the annual dawn service at 5am to remember our lost soldiers in the 1915 war in Gallipoli.  The service will include a walk from Horseshoe Beach to the ceremony site and a four gun Salute to the Fallen by the guns at Fort Scratchley.  The ceremony should finish around 6am.  This is very well attended service, with limited available parking, so please allow plenty of time to reach the ceremony site.  Public transport is available to Newcastle train station, with the site approximately a 15 minute walk from there.

The second part of the service is a march from Hunter St Mall to Civic Park commencing at 9.15am.  Heading west down Hunter before turning left at Darby Street and right at King Street to reach Civic Park.  Please keep in mind and be respectful of road closures around this time.  The march will be followed by the United Commemoration Service at 10am by the cenotaph in Civic Park - if it’s raining on the day, the service will be held in City Hall.

For more info and road closure notices.

Grinspoon will be stopping off at Newcastle Panthers on their Six to Midnight tour, promoting their 6th studio album.  Doors open at 7.30pm with special guest performance from Strangers & Hunting Grounds.  For more info and tickets.

Thursday 28 April

Aussie punk rock band Frenzal Romb will be at the Bar on the Hill.  The band has been around since 1992 and are still releasing new tunes over a decade later.  Doors to the event will open at 7.30pm and pre-sale tickets are now on available.
