Launch/”We Heart Morgan St Art” party at Renew Newcastle HQ in Morgan St (off Hunter St Mall) for First Friday of the Month Event series. Angus Arley will serenade you while you eat tasty sushi. Street Art Walking will be around so you can meet the artists behind the Morgan St Mural and find out more about legal street art in Newcastle. Other Renewers are getting in the spirit and staying open late on the night as well. 6 - 9pm. More info.

Little Red is performing at the Bar on the Hill! With Rock It! reaching #2 in the latest Triple J Hottest 100 list, these guys are on fire! They’ll be supported by locals Kira Puru & The Bruise to kick off their Streetlights Tour. Tickets are $32.50 (less for students & UCard holders). More info.

A gig will take place at Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club to raise funds in the name of young Novocastrian Conservatorium of Music student Laura Clark. More info.

Irish beauty Imelda May will take to the stage with special guests locals Pat Capocci and Zoe K. With a blistering review like this one, you’d be crazy not to check her out: “The problem with an artist like Imelda May is that she’s so good, it makes a critical review almost impossible to write; her performance is flawless.” – Clash Magazine. Comedy great Billy Connolly is on The Man tour will have you in stitches at Newcastle Entertainment Centre from 8pm. He hasn’t toured here for the past 6 years, so if you’re a fan, don’t miss out! More info & tickets.

Saturday, 5 March & Sunday, 6 March: Lambton Park Wine & Food Festival. Indulge in gourmet food & wine, & be entertained by a line up put together by Lizottes Newcastle. Entry is $15.00, which includes a cute little glass, 1 wine tasting and access to the demonstrations and entertainment. More info & tickets.

Saturday 5 March: The Olive Tree Market showcases an array of emerging Newcastle artists and fashion designers - there’s some really high quality work going on around here! There’s also tasty snacks and drinks. More info.

Sunday, 6 March: Ray Mann Three will perform one of their last gigs in Aus at The Great Northern Hotel. With both MTV singing his praises, and comparisons to Tom Waits, Ray Mann’s got it all covered. Daniel March will kick things off. Tickets are $12 on the door.

From Wednesday, 9 March: Newcastle’s only annual international sporting event, Surfest runs for 13 days and involves more than 750 surfers. With everything from the $85,000 Burton Toyota Pro to Miss Surfest, & everything in between, there’s something for everyone. More info.

For all of March: The Cambridge is getting into the Surfest spirit - buy a Carlton Draught at the pub and go in the draw to win a surfboard. More info.

Helen Henry grew up in Newcastle, and in 2010 graduated with a Bachelor of Communication from the local University. This was pleasing because it made her officially qualified to communicate about the things she likes most: music and the music industry, photography, digital, cute animals and her friends & family. Most recently, Helen worked as a Digital Projects Assistant at Sticky Advertising and was Editor of Urban Insider. She has recently landed a pretty sweet gig working in the music industry in Sydney.
