Rock ‘n’ Racing… curious yet? Check it out TONIGHT!

Rosie of Rosie's School of Rock gets his roll on at the Velodrome ahead of tonight's Rock n Racing event.
Some of you might remember Sherbert rocking it in the local velodrome in the 70s? For those Gen-Yers amongst us, you might have a similar story to myself – a lone memory of the velodrome as home to a particularly unfortunate rollerblading incident at the age of 10? Either way, you’re probably surprised to hear that it’s now being put to use as part of a unique event combining rockers and riders.
Rock ‘n’ Racing will take place on Wednesday, 19 January (tonight!), and the Newcastle Velodrome will host not only a full racing program, but performances from local band Ravaged and kid-rockers Green Ant.
You can bring the kids and they can participate in a special scooter race too.
The idea for the event was born over a cup of coffee and a chat (as many are) between Craig Chapman (Hunter Region Sports Hall of Fame, Member Australian Track Team 1987-88), Neil Robinson (Hunter Velodrome Trust) and Craig “Rosie” Rosevear (Rosie’s School of Rock). Keen to introduce cycling to a younger generation, the trio took inspiration from their experiences at the famous Six Days of Ghent, a Belgian cycling event with a carnival atmosphere.
Entry is by gold coin donation and kick off is 7pm.
