I hope “specialised” trivia nights count!
Me and my girlfriends go the Geeks & Beats Music Trivia every Wednesday night at the Great Northern in town.
It is so much fun! The prizes are decent:
First and second place get some bar tab.
Third place each week gets a “vintage vinyl” a funny, old record. (we took home the best of Kamahl a few weeks ago! more coveted than first place!)
Which is not bad seeing as it’s free to play.
The host is funny and makes the most of the nights. They often do special themes (a few weeks back was all love songs for Geeks & HeartBeats Valentines, and each year there is an awesome Halloween night. Decorations, people dress up, there’s a trophy! etc)
The questions are at a level even the people with the lowest music knowledge can have fun (unlike The Cambridge Hotel that seems like an episode of RocKwiz!)
And I’ll stop now. It’s like I just wrote them an ad.
QuizTeam Aguilera FTW!
I have been to many trivia nights all over Newie in the last few years and I would have to say that my three favourite venues would have to be:
The Del if Monday is your preferred night
The Mary Ellen if Tuesday is your preferred night, and
Geeks and Beats music trivia at the Great Northern if Wednesday suits you.
The Mary Ellen is usually well patronised and depending on how many teams there are, first place can be as much as a $100 bistro voucher.
The Del is a more intimate atmosphere
Geeks and Beats is very enjoyable if you enjoy your music, and the night has a great atmosphere for a trivia night
The The Theatre Lane Hotel at the old Crown & Anchor site, Wednesday night from 7pm.
Mini games get free drinks and Freddo’s or similar. Winners might get food vouchers, don’t know, haven’t won.
I second Kate’s nomination of Geeks & Beats at the Great Northern on Wednesday nights at 7pm.
I’ve been to a few different pub trivia nights over the years and Geeks & Beats tops them all.
The host, Jim is terrific - really knowledgeable and funny - he often dresses up. And the questions are a great mix for music lovers.
The theme nights at Halloween, Valentine’s Day, Christmas are so so much fun! There is a 90s night coming up soon and we are already putting a team together in anticipation!
The prizes are vouchers for 1st and 2nd and an old school vinyl record for 3rd.
Definitely recommended for a fun night out - a few cocktails, Geeks and Beats and a band at the Great Northern!
Geeks and Beats Music trivia at the Great Northern Hotel every Wednesday night at 7pm is my fave!
Jimmmy is the host with the most and we don’t go there so much for the prizes (which are up to $30 bar tab for 1st prize’), it’s more about the music and atmosphere. The dress up nights, decorations, and trophies also add some fun.
My daughters & I regularly go to “Geeks & Beats” music trivia at the Great Northern Hotel in Scott Street.
We enjoy our dinner, while having fun answering the Spicks & Specks type questions. If only we could entice my oldest daughter to join us (to add her knowledge of the 80’s).
We have managed to win 3rd place daggy vinyl twice.
“Girls just wanna have won”
My friends and I regularly go to the trivia at the Hotel Delaney on Darby Street. It’s a really fun night with prizes including cash, bar tab vouchers and some bottles of wine. At the end of each night is a jackpot question that goes up in value each week its not won.
The venue could use some more chairs though! it’s getting so popular recently it’s becoming standing room only!
The Lass aka The Lass O’Gowrie has trivia every Wednesday night from 7pm. There are always awesome teams there and the trivia man, named Dan, is very friendly and fun.
You can win anything from food to drinks to book vouchers and they have a jackpot each week which is currently at $1000!
You gotta be in it to win it!
What about Lass-Trivia on Wednesdays? That place is awesome - last I was there the Jackpot is upto $1000 - Food Giveaway’s, Book Voucher Giveaway and importantly Beer giveaways! Really wide variety of questions so most people are in with a chance of knowing something. The occational (advertised) theme night and runs to a pretty good format!
Not to mention you get your answer sheet back to DOUBLE CHECK your answers when the host reads out the answers; something they don’t do elsewhere and has lead to some ‘unusual’ results and general lack of transparency!

The Clarendon has an awesome trivia every Thursday night. It’s a mix of current events, pop culture, sport and general knowledge trivia.
Each week the top three teams share in some bar tab (1st place gets $50 on the bar) as well as some mini games for drinks vouchers through the night. There’s also a jackpot question each week that goes up if not won.
There’s also opportunity to win some more cash and drinks with an SMS trivia game that runs while they’re marking the scores. Never seen anything like it, you have to check it out.
And it’s free!
The Lass trivia rocks! An ecletic mix of regulars but always welcoming others, it is probably the geekiest trivia in town. Always up for giving extra points for extra geeky knowledge (Who knows He-Mans FULL name?) Dan the man is full of fun facts. Lots of prizes, lots of sidegames and lots of fun.
