Pop-up Gallery in Newcastle - The Second Coming
Newcastle, NSW – The Second Coming, an artist run initiative pop-up gallery space designed to showcase the creative work and talent of the Hunter and surrounding regions announced their debut event to be held at Newcastle’s iconic Nobby’s Lighthouse in May. Motivated by the abundance of local talent, The Second Coming are bringing a new way of showcasing local and internationally recognised artists, performers and musicians in a critically engaging exhibition that lasts only a matter of hours. Imagine wandering through a visual art collection while a fashion show unfolds around you and live music fills your ears- a complete sensory explosion.
On the front foot of the proposed development opportunities and growth for the Newcastle CBD area. The Second Coming wants to encourage the creative free flow of talent between artists, designers, performers, musicians, the community and local businesses. Emphasis is placed on the revival of historical sites as well as sparking interest back into the creative culture in Newcastle.
The ever expanding line-up includes music by Fox Control, Trigger Mode, Shanna Watson, Benjamin Fraser, Symbiotic Symphonies, Sir William Charles, Grandmaster Monk, Grace Turner and Panther. Fashion bought by The Lair, Jzhonnie Bechet, Make Me Loco,Velvet Hummingbird, Kolet, Crooked Crow Couture and Zeka Hene. Live performances by Golden Apples of the Sun, Nipples of the Moon, Koko Butterdove and Simmons Loughland. The art list is overflowing with emerging artists such as Kwaku Atuahene, Tabbatha Galllen, Peta Lumley, Belinda Howden, Richard Titcomb, Bonnie Grace Dwyer, +Harvest and Umpel to name a few, who will hang along side nationally and internationally recognised artists such as Yolngu performing and visual artist Gambirra Illume, accomplished abstract artist John Sorby, Richard Tipping sculptor and word-artist who has had more than twenty solo exhibitions in Australia as well as in New York, London and Germany, local iconic social photographer Zen Harris ans Australian director Neil Mansfield.
But even with all the amazing artists involved and the determination of the two women driving The Second Coming, Nicole and Jzhonnie, none of this would be possible without support from local businesses such as Mane Events, who are supplying the sound and lighting, Cage Hair and Make-up’s award winning hairdresser Wade-William Ambler who will be behind the scenes doing the hair and makeup for the models, Newcastles first small bar Terrace Bar will be hosting the after-party, Sprout Catering who will be filling our gullets with gourmet canapes and the incredibly supportive Newcastle Now.
