Photographing Carrington’s Industrial Side
While some may suggest Cooks Hill or Newcastle East, after my observations, I hereby proclaim Carrington as the most Novocastrian suburb in Newcastle. The wide streets lined with beautiful terrace houses create a casual, easygoing feel. In between these are a respectable number of pubs and cafes. Cross the road and you suddenly find towering figures of industry - ports, loading equipment, and the ever-iconic Forgacs floating dock. It’s definitely a location I’ll be revisiting in the future.
Each week “The Grid” features photos of a selected area of the Newcastle & Hunter region“, capturing moments that might otherwise go unnoticed.
Carrington is fascinating. I too have wandered around, usually on bike looking at all the curious sights.
I don’t know if you saw it but once you cross that rail bridge there is a small easement along the wharf with a table and grass.
Also, have you seen the hydraulic power station in Carrington?

Hi ZZP,
I didn’t walk down the other side of the bridge, but I did see the area you were talking about. I’d love to head back there for a sunrise or sunset - not sure if they lock the gate on the bridge at night though? Will have to find out.
I saw the power station too…again, would love to go back with some more interesting light. There’s a lot more to Carrington than what shows in this small set of photos!
Have said for ages that Carrington is a great place…access to Newcastle, not overcrowded and now some pubs serving great food.
Interesting shots Ben…Newcastle=industrial=photographers delight.
