Photographing Blackbutt Reserve
Recently, a few other photographers that I follow have posted short photo-walks similar to The Grid posts for Urban Insider. A lot of their work involves simple shapes and patterns - nothing too complex, just seeing something interesting and snapping it. I think that sometimes I overthink my photos - try and make every image technically correct, obey rules of composition, make sure they are sharp enough and so on. These things are important, but sometimes it is good to just shoot away, to act like the first day you picked up a camera and just photographed everything in sight. This week I took a walk around a small part of Blackbutt Reserve, and tried to stifle the part of my brain yelling about apertures and shutter speeds and the like. I don’t think I quite succeeded but it’s definitely a different way of approaching things, and one that I hope to work more on in the future.
Each week “The Grid” features photos of a selected area of the Newcastle & Hunter region, capturing moments that might otherwise go unnoticed.
