PediCabs: Rickshaws Ride Into Newcastle
Here’s something that is sure to excite all Novocastrians.
If you’re like me and are sick of the always unreliable Newcastle taxi service, then a fun and environmentally friendly form of transport that has hit Newcastle might just be the thing for you.
Eastcoast Pedicabs, which has just recently started operating in Newcastle is a taxi service with a difference.
They are to operate a rickshaw type of transport in our city. That’s right, you can now cruise around town just like you’re in the backstreets of Bangkok or Mumbai. How cool is that!
Not only do Eastcoast Pedicabs provide a taxi service which operates along the Honeysuckle to Nobbys Beach stretch, around to Newcastle Beach and along the popular shopping and eating strips of Darby St and the Hunter Street Mall, they also do tours for Novocastrians and visitors alike.
You can grab a seat on the Pedicab Picnic, which takes in the foreshore and Honeysuckle areas before stopping off at Nobby’s Beach for a picnic of goodies provided by the Hunter Valley Growers Market.
They also run a Dinner Tour which can whisk you around town before dropping you off at any number of the city’s fine dining establishments. Plus, the rickshaws are available for weddings, functions, formals and even advertising campaigns.
Prices for the taxi service range from the $10-$20 mark and are inclusive of two passengers. These can be booked over the phone on 0432 166 118 or like a normal cab, you can simply flag one down as they are riding past.
The Pedicabs operate both day and night over the weekend, as well as on a Wednesday night for those around town on student night.
If you would like to get involved and perhaps become a Pedicab Pilot, Eastcoast Pedicabs are looking for riders. Shifts are flexible and it is good fun, great fitness and excellent money. For more information about becoming a pilot or for any details in regards to operating hours, take a look at their website.
And, if anyone has already had a chance to ride one of these rickshaws we’d love to hear your thoughts!
