The fourth season of Newcastle’s popular Six Summer Flicks film festival returns to Greater Union Cinemas King Street Newcastle next week. Beginning Tuesday 17 January, the festival, organised in conjunction with Newcastle Art Gallery Society, will showcase six international films from Denmark, France, Israel, the USA, UK and Finland. Six Summer Flicks will see a different movie screened at Greater Union Cinemas King Street for six consecutive nights - each one from a different part of the world.

In a Better World (MA15+)

Tuesday, 17 January 6.30 pm

This beautiful, sad and ultimately compassionate Danish film has received much recognition, winning the 2011 Golden Globe and Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.

The Illusionist (PG)

Wednesday, 18 January 6.30pm

One for the whole family, this French film has been described as a refreshing and beautiful.

The Human Resources Manager (M)

Thursday, 19 January 6.30pm

A tragi-comedy about a PR crisis at a large Israel bakery, this likeably shambolic film is sure to entertain.

Beginners (M)

Tuesday, 24 January 6.30pm

This US rom-com drama starring Ewan McGregor, received rave reviews upon its release and we’re sure you’ll be giving it the same reception once you watch it.

Submarine (M)

Wednesday 25 January 6.30pm

This UK film was directed by Moss from The IT Crowd, so we already know its going to be hilarious. Laugh your way through as you relate to the teen awkwardness, virginity, infidelity and dead-end marriages throughout.

Le Havre (PG)

Thursday, 26 January 6.30pm

A French film which tackles the issues of refugees trying to find their way into Europe, and their often substandard treatment.

It’s not often that you get to experience six countries in one week in Newcastle so this film festival is one not to be missed!

Festival passes are available only at Greater Union Cinemas King Street box office and will set you back just $60 for members and concessions, and $72 for non-members. Alternatively, individual tickets are on sale now - a steal at $12 for members and concession holders and $15 for non-members.
