Newcastle Tantrum Turns 35: Theatre With Guts

Tantrum Theatre, youth theatre in Newcastle

Newcastle’s Tantrum Theatre is celebrating its 35th birthday and is showing off its high quality arts programs and bold theatre in a feast of performances called Theatre With Guts this November.

Daring & inventive is the essence of the 4 day festival kicking off on 16 November. The keynote event is Act Three, a collection of three 20 minute monologues written by playwrights in their final year of Tantrum’s Emerging Writers Program. The three contrasting pieces will be brought to life by emerging directors, actors and designers.

You can see the next generation of Newcastle’s actors by checking out The Kids Are Alright performed by the Theatre’s 15 - 17 years ensemble.

You might even have a performance sprung upon you as part of Pop UP!, a collection of performances that will be transforming business & cafes across the city. Featuring performers from 5 - 30 years, these free, innovative pieces of outdoor theatrical fun are sure to delight.

Helen Henry grew up in Newcastle, and in 2010 graduated with a Bachelor of Communication from the local University. This was pleasing because it made her officially qualified to communicate about the things she likes most: music and the music industry, photography, digital, cute animals and her friends & family. Most recently, Helen worked as a Digital Projects Assistant at Sticky Advertising and was Editor of Urban Insider. She has recently landed a pretty sweet gig working in the music industry in Sydney.
