Newcastle Start Your Engines! Rockers & Revheads This Weekend
The annual Newcastle Livesites Rockers and Revheads Festival kicks off tomorrow and will deliver a weekend of rock n roll & rockabilly tunes paired with an array of impressive vehicles ranging from American & British classics to hotrods and motorcycles.
Here’s a day-by-day play-by-play so you can get your jive on this weekend:
Thursday - The Launch
Today is Launch Day! Things will kick off at Marketown in Newcastle West at 5pm. There’ll be 50s and 60s tunes with The Snakebite Duo handling the American side of things & The Roving Clones dishing out the British hits. There will be era-appropriate fashion & cars on display, as well as the opportunity to indulge in some dance lessons. It runs until 9pm.
Friday - Rockin’ Rockabilly
Get our your leopard print and slick back that hair. Head along to Newcastle Leagues Club tonight and enjoy entertainment by No Brakes and DJ Gavin Bean. Tickets are $8 (+ booking fee) and it runs from 7:30 - 11:30pm.
Saturday - Best of British, the Ball, a Showband & the Drive-In
Head over to Lambton Park today and you’ll get to see the best of classic British cars & motorcycles, along with live music and dance lessons on offer. Kick off is at 10am, and you can make a day of it by sticking around for the Fake Four Showband until 3pm and then kicking on to the Northumberland Hotel, Lambton Park Hotel, The Mark & Bar 121, which each have entertainment over the course of the evening.
Finally head across the road to Lizottes for The Beatnix Showband at 9pm. More info & tickets.
If you’d rather get dolled up and head into town, check out the Rockers & Revheads Ball at Panthers Newcastle. For just $15 (+ booking fee), you can party from 7:30 - 11:30pm, entertained by The Real Gone Cats. Tickets.
For those with a sweet ride, why not join in the cruise at Stockrington Drive-In theatre and enjoy The World’s Fastest Indian, and ogling the other vehicles of course! Entry is $6.
Sunday - American Day
Classic cars & motorcycles, street rods and pure American classics will be on display at Camp Shortland (opposite Nobby’s Beach) today. Kick off is bright & early at 9am, and there’ll be a rock n roll gospel service, more dancing and live music abounds. If it rains, head to the Carriage Sheds in Foreshore Park instead.
