Newcastle Music: What’s New?

Newcastle Music Guitars

Happenings on the music side of things in Newcastle…

First, some free music

Budgewoi’s When The World are offering free special acoustic version of their new song Skeletons. You can get it on their Facebook page.

They’re joined by local thrash metal heads Sabretung who are giving away a free digital download of their album Conquest with every shirt or CD purchase. You can buy them here.

The Fleet Foxes’ Robin Pecknold is also on the free bandwagon, dropping a free 3 song solo EP on the band’s Twitter account yesterday. You can download it here.

And potentially free music…for Newcastle Uni students. The U is running a Golden Ticket competition - the winner will get a ticket to every U event in 2011. This includes a ticket to Beach Party, Frenzal Rhomb, Boy + Bear, Propaghandi, Autonomy Day and all the other gigs they book through the year. Entry details are on their Facebook page.

Trumours & the like…

Groovin’ the Moo Maitland tickets are just about sold out so get in quickly if you want some.

…according to organiser Grant Hunter, the lineup for Funk n Grooves is almost ready and pre-artist release tickets are just about gone.

…local songstress Zoe K is on the hunt for a venue for her album launch.

…1233 ABC Newcastle Award winners Nick & Liesl also have a new album coming out.

…birdsandbelles are having a music video launch party on Thursday, 17 March at The Lass. You can watch the making of their clip for Walls on Youtube and see the full clip on the night.

In the coming weeks… Usher & then Stone Temple Pilots will grace the Newcastle Entertainment Centre stage.

Helen Henry grew up in Newcastle, and in 2010 graduated with a Bachelor of Communication from the local University. This was pleasing because it made her officially qualified to communicate about the things she likes most: music and the music industry, photography, digital, cute animals and her friends & family. Most recently, Helen worked as a Digital Projects Assistant at Sticky Advertising and was Editor of Urban Insider. She has recently landed a pretty sweet gig working in the music industry in Sydney.
