If you use Twitter & have a smart phone, chances are you’ve tweeted from a live event…

Live Twitter feeds at events are becoming more common around the world and in our own backyard. The feeds allow attendees to comment on and share photos of an event with others there and those at home, as it happens, and seem to be popping up across a variety of industries, further blurring the line between online and offline socialisation.

There are local groups, businesses & events putting these feeds to use, like the recent Lambton Food & Wine Festival (#grapestomp) as well as some of Australia’s biggest festivals including Big Day Out (#bdo) and countless national and international industry conferences.

The live twitter feed is generally shown on a screen (or through a phone app) at the event, as well as being broadcast to the Twitterverse via the use of hash tags, offering everyone the chance to be involved.

From an event manager’s point of view, the feeds are a great way to offer people elsewhere an inside perspective, with comments by people creating content because they want to (not because they have to).

There are 2 upcoming opportunities to get in involved in a live twitter feed in Newcastle:

Helen Henry grew up in Newcastle, and in 2010 graduated with a Bachelor of Communication from the local University. This was pleasing because it made her officially qualified to communicate about the things she likes most: music and the music industry, photography, digital, cute animals and her friends & family. Most recently, Helen worked as a Digital Projects Assistant at Sticky Advertising and was Editor of Urban Insider. She has recently landed a pretty sweet gig working in the music industry in Sydney.
