Sadly, the Hunter Valley food and wine month is coming to an end this Monday 27th June.  Over the month there has been a range of events on including pure wine indulgence, educational classes and edible experiences. The predicted weather for the Hunter this weekend is sunshine and what better way to spend it than fine wine and dining in the Hunter Valley. I have chosen the best events to attend, making sure you have all the info and don’t miss out!

Don’t miss the opportunity to enter the Sip ‘n’ Snap competition as it will be closing entries to begin the judging process. If you love getting behind the lens and think you’ve got the talent be sure to get to Tulloch Wines for the opportunity to have your photograph on the Tulloch Wine website and published in the next issue of the Hunter Valley Breathe Magazine. A camera is provided at the cellar door as well as props to make sure your picture will catch the judges eye.

The Wine and Cheese Marriage: Tips for avoiding a nasty divorce: For all the cheese lovers out there this is a counselling session that will help you to understand and appreciate the loving relationship between cheese and wine. Perfect if your planning to host a dinner party and want to impress your guests. The host is Christopher Ganzer, a mix of master cheesemaker and wine educator, who will be sure to give you the run down on a perfect match. The ticket price includes lunch and wine and is held at the McWilliams Mount Pleasant Winery.

Another highlight that everyone should attend is the Goldfish Hunter Valley Cocktail School: This is a cocktail school with a twist, all cocktails will incorporate how wine can be used in the creation of a fancy drink. Everyone gets the chance to express their ideas on a great cocktail combo then mix, muddle and shake it to life.

This week has been named ‘Restaurant Week’ and participating restaurants will be creating a menu with 3 tasting wines to match a leisurely lunch or dinner. Depending on your tastebuds you can choose from spanish tapas at Emerson’s Pokolbin Restaurant, or if you fancy some japanese Roberts Restaurant offers a sashimi tasting plate to kick off your feast. Get together with some friends and book a table at any of the restaurants for either Saturday or Sunday.

Duck seems to be all the rage since the creative dishes made on Masterchef, and if your following this craze make sure you Duck Out this Sunday at the Verandah Restaurant in Pokolbin to dine on some fabulous Nukalba duck dishes prepared by chef Matt Dillow. And being the wine country it’s essential that your meal will be paired with some wonderful wines.

And finally, lovers of tea can go along to the High Tea at Tower Lodge on Saturday and Sunday between 3-5pm. The treats on offer will satisfy any sweet tooth with decadent cakes and sweets. For $45 a range of Tower Lodge wines will be included to complete the experience. And if that doesn’t sound perfect enough you will be snuggled cosily in front of a roaring fire.
