Eggcellent Places for an Easter Egg Hunt in Newcastle
With the promise of chocolate eggs, family gatherings and a 5 day weekend, this year’s Easter holiday is one to be excited about. Especially if there is an Easter Egg Hunt thrown in somewhere…
While Easter has it roots in religion, it seems much of the fuss comes from the promise of chocolate. Certainly for me, and probably many of you, as a child one of the most exciting things about Easter was the thrill of the delicious Easter Egg Hunt. This year I urge you to channel that childish excitement you’ve started to feel as you read this, and stage a hunt in a special spot in Newcastle with your closest and dearest this Easter. As either hider or hunter, this game of search and rescue is sure to put smiles on everyone’s faces.
So for all those ‘young at heart’ Novocastrians out there, here is a list of some of the best places to stage an Easter Egg Hunt this Easter!
King Edward Park
One of the most iconic parks in Newcastle, King Edward Park allows for a picnic after your hunt, providing a whole day of Easter fun, perhaps an egg and spoon race?
Any beach
Buried treasure? Now depending on the skill levels of the hunters and the time you have on your hands, the beach could be the perfect hiding ground for hundreds of eggs! Don’t forget your shovels!
The Esplanade, Warners Bay
Quickly becoming a popular place for water sports and other leisure activities (bike riding, rollerblading, pretty much anything with wheels!), this spot boasts some really good hiding spots as well as the chance to see the dolphins that call Lake Macquarie home.
Your local park
Swings, slippery-dips, and seesaws. The fun of going around hiding eggs in all these sneaky places is almost too much to resist and is great for the little ones!
Hunter Valley Gardens
For those of you who want to be the hunters, leave the hiding to someone else and head to the Hunter Valley Gardens for their 5th annual Easter Egg Hunt, with hunts running every 45 minutes on Saturday and Sunday. The HVG has also planned other exciting events including an appearance from the Easter Bunny! Perfect for the kids and the grown-ups! Your own backyard
A hunt in your own backyard may sound boring, however, do you really pay attention to the little things that surround your home? The little holes in the brickwork, the window ledges, pool toys, furniture, the letterbox, all perfect places to hide eggs! Now that you have some ideas there are no excuses! Have an Easter Egg Hunt and feel your heart race and your eyes light up as you hide, or hunt for, those tiny shiny eggs. The game doesn’t end till the last one is found! As the hours, days, weeks and months go on, do not fret when all you begin to find are little squished up balls of foil, because soon enough Easter will arrive again. The only question is, where will you hide your eggs next year?
At Uni
Students, you don’t have to miss out on the fun! On Thursday, 21 April, Facebook’s Newcastle University StalkerSpace presents “The Hunt” in support of the Red Cross’ disaster relief efforts. A gold coin donation will mean that you get to frolic around the uni collecting eggs, or you can put up your hand & volunteer to hide eggs & help set up (email for more info). Registration is essential and can be completed at the Bar On the Hill from 11:30am. The hunt will begin at 12 noon.
