CALL OUT: Newcastle Artists Up For A Trip Down Memory Lane

Theatre Lane Project

A great opportunity exists for local artists. Image courtesy of Street Art Walking.

Local art project Street Art Walking have put the call out to local artists for a project with a bit of a difference.

The Theatre Lane Project will run for six months and is focused on decorating the laneway to the old Victoria Theatre in Perkins Street, Newcastle.

Project coordinator Simone Sheridan is looking to give the old laneway a little of the tender, loving care that it most definitely deserves.

The Victoria Theatre is the most significant (still standing) theatre building in New South Wales and is often a bit of a forgotten gem in the inner city area.

Sheridan is calling for local artists to design a poster that reflects what the laneway may have looked like during its heyday. The project isn’t calling for submissions of advertising
or promotional material (i.e. a poster promoting a particular show/gig/date), rather a theatre style poster made specifically for the project. Artist logos will be considered when incorporated into the poster design.

Submissions for the project can be made up until 18 November. For more details about the project, check out their website.

Also in the art world, a great opportunity for local artists to have their work showcased on a national scale has come about with the creation of Emerge.

An independent website designed to promote emerging artists throughout Australia, Emerge aims to facilitate an affordable way for artists to showcase their work online, and to create innovative projects, exhibitions and workshops to assist with career development. For more information about this exciting new project, take a peak at their website.
